Warehouse to Modern Loft

Dallas

The client was looking to update his space after many years of having the same style, furniture, etc. He didn’t really know what he wanted to do other than bring his space into a more refined and cohesive look. Comfort was also a big need. He basically gave us the keys and asked us what we would do with it given complete creative control. We liked the idea of taking the hard lines and surfaces of the old warehouse and softening everything with subtle colors and shapes. We also wanted to use the spaces to display new artwork that we found on gallery excursions. We found a lot of the furniture through antique or resale shops and had things reupholstered and refinished. We also designed some custom furniture for him, as we do for most of our clients. When he saw the finished project he was over the moon…so that made us really, really happy.

Traditional to Transitional

San Diego

This project started with the client calling me from a vacation out of town, telling me they had a massive water break that flooded the downstairs. They were already thinking about a remodel, so this just set into motion. Their place needed an update, so we presented the idea of first attacking all of the common areas and the primary suite. They have a great pool and nice exterior landscaping in the backspace, so we opened up one of the walls in the living room and put in large sliding doors that open up to the pool area. We ripped out the entire fireplace wall, creating a cleaner, more linear look. Next up was the kitchen, which got a complete overhaul with a mix of cabinet styles and finishes to give it a more modern feel. We also created a custom tile design for the entry space that everyone loved. We took that style into the rest of the house for cohesiveness—a fun project with a great client.

Coastal Contemporary

La Jolla

This is an architectural gem designed by local architect Jonathan Segal. It is a poured-in-place concrete beauty with all the contemporary bells and whistles. We had the fortunate opportunity to decorate with furniture, local artists’ work, accessories, etc. The client called us to bring all of the design into a more cohesive vibe and be comfortable. The clean lines and spartan spaces directed us in how we appointed it. We had the good luck to watch master photographer Julius Shulman shoot it as well. It was a lesson from some unique talents and a pleasure to participate in.

Spanish Revival With 2nd Story Addition

San Diego

The clients on this one were a couple of super-fun ladies with great taste. We got to be a part of a team that took a one-story Spanish cottage and added a second-story primary suite. Working through the architectural details, finishes, etc., was a wonderful experience. We love color, so we were delighted that these particular clients did also. Some of the highlights for us were all of the tile designs we got to lay over new architectural details, creating a colorful kitchen and a small backyard sanctuary. The primary suite turned out exceptionally cozy. We all couldn’t have been happier with the result.

Colorful Eclectic

Dallas

This was another project where we could mix lots of color in the materials, custom furniture pieces, and artwork to create an artistic space for a client with a fun personality (we also had the opportunity to update her three hair salons). We got to mix great artwork with many pieces found in antique and resale shops for a collected look. We designed some custom furniture and used a mix of burl, acrylic, and lacquer as finishes. This client had great taste and style but needed our help editing down everything she liked, adding different styles and ideas, and pulling it all together. Once we narrowed the selections, it was easy to finish and add the details.

Bright Transitional

San Diego

We took a fairy traditional home and went digging through the 1950s – 1970s (with a few older antiques), looking for furniture and fixtures to bring back to life. Color was a big part of the plan for some of the spaces they used for entertaining while keeping the family room and primary bedroom pretty monochromatic and chill. The client was a fan of a few decades of furniture in the past, so we were tasked with blending the different styles into one project. Getting to decorate with some of our favorite furniture designers from the past was especially exciting.

Vintage Modern

Dallas

This was a study of vintage finds combined with custom furniture. I don’t think anything in this project came from a current manufacturer or store. We reupholstered or refinished everything we found at antique stores, 1st Dibs, etc. If we couldn’t find it, we designed and built it. We got to go over the top with the things we love, from the draperies to the accessories.
